Week 1-2's Learning and What's Happening in Week 3.

Trish Patten —

As you read further you will hear about some of our learning and some notices that we would like to bring to your attention, plus next week's timetable.

Transformation is the theme of our learning this year and in Term 1 we are focusing on Cultural Landmarks in our city and how Christchurch has changed with migration and natural disasters.

This week students began their learning by identifying what a landmark is from their current knowledge and aiming to write a meaning for a landmark.

One class's definition is: A landmark means the object is easily recognisable and has significance (important).

Next week we will investigate what a cultural landmark is in preparation for our trip to the CBD in Week 4 on February 21st. As our learning continues their concept of a landmark will adjust as will their concept of what transformation in our lives looks like.

We have also participated in learning activities about the Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti o Waitangi) leading up to our students creating a Team Treaty for the year. Students have been very engaged and had good discussions about Aotearoa NZ History in relation to the Treaty of Waitangi.

Maths:

We have commenced learning around statistical investigations leading up to the Census in early March and looking a community changes in relation to ethnicity and migration over time. One group this week investigated activities students like to do at lunchtime at school. The results indicated "Talking With Friends" was very popular and Tag was not popular at all.

See some photos of this learning below.
