Junior Kapa Haka
Kākano Kapa haka were off to a great start at the beginning of the year and the tamariki continued to impress everyone at the school, outside of school and at the Gala. In Term 3, we represented Oaklands School at the SouthWest Cultural Festival at Hillmorton high with a range of waiata. In Term 4, we learnt some new waiata and poi skills with the girls presenting at the Gala.
There was amazing commitment from Kākano students to learn some waiata, before we finally joining with Kauri in Term 4 to perform all together at the Gala. We had a couple of boys nominate themselves to lead the group into different waiata, Matua Rihari was particularly impressed with their confidence and leadership skills.
Well done, Kākano Kapa haka. Your hard work and dedication has made for an amazing year. We hope to see more tamariki join next year and for all the current tamariki to continue on this journey.
