EPro8 Challenge 2020!

Lance Muller —

The first round of the EPro8 Challenge has come to an end.

The EPro8 Challenge is an engineering and problem solving competition for Year 7 and 8 students. This is the first year that Oaklands has been part of this exciting learning opportunity.

We have two teams of students entered into the competition.

Representing Oaklands in Year 7 is Patrick Corcoran, Luke McIntosh, Eden Greaves and Isabella Ge.

Representing Oaklands in Year 8 is Matthew Randall, Morgan Leoni, Rose Brorens and Luca Damiani.

The teams have been challenged to design and build a robotic animal that could be part of a futuristic Robotic Creatures Zoo. The essence of their animal needs to be shown in their build, with moving parts. There are a number of other criteria that they need to meet. These only serve to make their challenge a little more challenging!

This Friday we submitted our entries for judging and the chance of getting the opportunity to progress to the next round. We will update you all in the near future to let you know how we went.

As part of their entry each team had to submit a 2 minute video and a one page write up on their creation.

Click on the links to read the write ups from each team.

Read below for some student voice on their Epro8 experience:

Year 8 Team: We have enjoyed trying something new. It has been a  fun mix of Maths, Science and Technology. It has been challenging getting all the parts to work together but we really have enjoyed working as part of a team.

Year 7 Team: It was a fun and exciting new thing to try and it was fun coming up with an animal, and our team name: The Oaklands Astro-Biscuits! Our team had a lot of fun making our Hedgehog.

The experience has been fun and rewarding. Regardless of the outcome of the upcoming judging we have all learned a lot and we are looking forward to having another go at this next year.
