Recap of our last 5 weeks in Hub 4!

Caleb Meyrick —

Through it all, we have come to the end of term 2!

New Teacher in Hub 4 - Miss Taylor

Hello, my name is Kendyl Taylor. I am excited to be joining the Year 4 team at the beginning of Term 3! I’m still quite new to Christchurch, I moved here from Wellington. I have been full time teaching/ relieving for the past four years and have worked in all levels ranging from New Entrant through to Year 8.

Feel free to come and say hi when you see me around the school, I would love to meet you.

Pajama Day

Students had a fantastic pajama day! We watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as we had just finished the novel. Most of the kids had their pillows and had a great time.

Literacy

Students have been reading and writing everyday and getting their Steps Web goals done and dusted. We are proud of Hub 4 leading the year levels in achieving their goals every week. The students work hard on their Steps Web and their progress shows this.

Maths

We are all finished with our Geometry. We have done Reflection, rotation, 2D and 3D shapes as well as mapping skills. The students have come out in the end with having strong foundation for their geometric knowledge.

Cross Country

Even with the wind and the rain we found a way to get the students out and onto the bike track to run their cross country. It wasn't what we had hoped for but all of Year 3 and 4 got out there and gave it their best shot. We are so proud of all the students who went out and gave it their all. Many completing 2 or even 3 laps of the bike track!

Integrated Learning

We have just finished with our structures for Integrated Learning. The students have been working hard over the last 10 weeks to complete the process of creating a structure. Through the 10 weeks they worked their way through finding inspiration, draft and final designs to constructing. Although many did not turn out what we had imagined, the students found they had a fun time doing it.

Art

We have been doing some Piet Mondrian Art Pieces which have consisted of using certain colours an straight lines to construct art. It has been a learning experience for both students and the teachers but we had some pretty good art pieces by the end of it.

Jump Jam

Our Year 4 Jump Jam team the "Oaklands Mermaids" have been training hard twice a week. They are now looking at training over the holidays as they prepare for their competition in August.

Gardening Day

On Monday some students were able to assist Mr Meyrick in helping clear out the gardens of our weeds and keep ontop of our lovely garden space. Students had an awesome block of time to get their hands in the dirt.

Mornings

We do remind parents that students need to be dropped off between 8:30 and 8:50 AM. Students will be asked to come in, tick themselves off on the roll and join in some games and activities that have been provided by the teachers. It is really important that they get here earlier rather than later as it gives the students time to settle in before they begin their learning.
