Learning in Hub 2, Term 3
It has been an exciting term with lots of highlights we would like to celebrate with you.
In maths we have been doing some workshops related to students numeracy goals as well as learning about fractions and how to measure length, volume and capacity. Maths posts have been added to HERO reports outlining what your child has been learning and their next steps.
For literacy we are continuing to develop structured literacy skills including phonemic awareness, alphabet and blend knowledge, vocabulary, comprehension and syntax (the way words are arranged in a sentence). All students are making gains through regular access to Stepsweb and through guided reading and writing lessons with teachers. Over the last few weeks our writing has aligned with our integrated learning focus of structures in the living world and this week students have used their five senses to describe blossom, daisies and other plants. Attached are some examples of some of the amazing writing over the last couple of weeks.
In Integrated learning students have been learning about the structures of living things. They found out about living and non-living things, learned about the things that living things need to survive, grew some plants from seeds and compared the structure of different living things. For the next five weeks we will move our focus to the structure of our solar system. Students will look closely at the relationship between the Sun, Moon and Planet Earth.
Other learning we have been focusing on includes learning to catch, kick and throw balls, continuing to develop our skipping skills during fitness, identifying the structure of music and we have enjoyed learning about the Olympics.
The opening of the bike track has been another highlight this term. Many of our students have enjoyed being able to get out on a bike during break times and challenging themselves to go over the bumps! Check out some of our students enjoying their first spin around the track.
Finally we would like to farewell two of our amazing teachers and welcome Ayla Preston and Karyn Pearce to the Year 2 team. Mrs Small surprised us with the early arrival of baby Elliot. Both mum and bubs are being well looked after and look forward to getting home and coming in for a visit when Elliot is stronger. Mrs Small will return to school next year after having some time at home with Elliot. Miss Foster will be leaving us at the end of next week but will have a week with our two new teachers to hand over the reigns and support them both with getting to grips with the planning, routines and systems. I have attached a copy of the letter that went home with students in Year 2 on Tuesday introducing the two new teachers.
