Room 9 Integrated Learning

Bryan Brown —

In Room 9, the Year 4 and Year 5 students have different topics that they are learning about in Integrated Learning.

In Year 4, the students have recently gone on a trip to Oderings Nursery and a Local Herb Farm which supplies restaurants and chefs throughout the South Island herbs and lettuces . As a follow up to this trip, we are looking into how we can use the information learned about the planting process to sustain food at home and at school (Sustainability). This week the students will be building their Herb Bottle Planter which will grow Coriander, Parsley, Basil and Chives.

In Year 5, half of the students have been on their trip to the Travis Wetlands (The other half is this Thursday). The purpose of this trip is to teach students about freshwater habitats and the creatures that live there. Students are currently learning about Habitats, Animal Classification, Food Chains, Human Impact and Native/  Introduced species as follow up lessons at school.
