Peer Mediation - Students helping students.

Lance Muller —

The Peer Mediation programme has run once again this year. This has seen year 7/8 students present in the playground assisting students with small issues as they arise.

Peer mediation provides a fantastic intermediate step between students and duty teachers. They also provide all students with another layer of support at play time.

Peer Mediators receive training at the start of the year and then do a weekly duty in pairs or threes. The Mediators are visible in the playground in their bright green vests. Being a mediator is not without challenge and Mediators are encouraged to seek help of duty teachers when they feel out of their depth.

Hear what the kids have to say about Peer Mediation below:

Warisha - This year I was Head Peer Mediator. My duty was to make sure people knew who was on and that everyone was doing their duty. My favorite part was getting to help kids and resolving a problem. Something that was a bit challenging was kids that wouldn’t listen and getting people to do their duty.

Brook- This year I was Head Peer Mediator and it was fun because we got to help around the school and help anyone in need, because some people needed help doing their job, but I think we did really well and overall it has been a fun year.

Crystal - This year in Peer Mediation I enjoyed helping students with their problems, ( especially the little juniors ) Something that challenges me the most is when the little juniors don’t listen and make up stories and when your group members never turn up and you’ll have to do Peer mediation all by yourself.

Nicholas K - This year in Peer Mediation I enjoyed helping the little kids with their playground problems. One of the challenging things about Peer Mediation was sorting out the who wouldn’t cooperate.

Daniel T - This year in Peer Mediation I enjoyed helping others with problems and meeting other juniors and little kids.

Dabok - This year in Peer Mediation I enjoyed helping others and listening to their problems. The challenging things were that sometimes some of the mediators forgot to do their jobs.
