Distance Learning - Hub 1 Week 5

Emma Frampton —

Monday 11th - Friday 15th May

Theme for the Week

As we are anticipating that most students will be returning to school very soon, this week our theme is all about feelings.  The children will be having mixed feelings about coming back to school and we want to start the process of them identifying those feelings and thinking of ways to work through those feelings.  We will be specifically looking at the following feelings; nervous, excited, shy, happy and curious.  Each morning, the teachers will read a poem about one of those feelings during the Zoom Whānau Hui and there will be a discussion around what that feeling might look like, feel like, and sound like.  You will also see that we have added some sentence starters about these feelings for our Writing task for the week.  We would really appreciate you continuing these conversations with your child at home, this will help them to prepare for their return to school and ensure that the transition is as seamless as possible.

If you are concerned about how your child may transition back to school and any extra support your child or yourself may need, please get in contact with your pastoral care teacher and we can develop a plan.

Learning

Here is the link to the distance learning slideshow for your easy reference - the new slides commence from Monday 11th May - Friday 15th May.

Seesaw

We are loving seeing all the posts coming through on Seesaw and the learning that is happening is amazing!  We feel really proud sharing the learning every morning on the Zoom Whānau Huis and you are all getting so good at talking about your learning.

As teachers continue to be working both from home and from school, we have set up the following guidelines for giving feedback on Seesaw posts:

Teachers will give feedback on 1 literacy, 1 numeracy and 1 other curriculum post per child, per week.  If a child/parent responds to the feedback, we will reply as that is counted as the same post.

All other posts will be liked, reviewed and then approved.

This allows teachers to give feedback in a manageable way going forwards and we thank you in advance for your support.

Our optional challenge for this week continues to be for the children to learn and then record their mihi (self introduction in Te Reo Māori).

You can access the mihi template on the Te Reo Māori slide in the distance learning slideshow. Children can use written/visual supports to guide them. This is a starting point and giving it your best effort is all we are looking for!
