Term 3 Overview

Trish Patten —

We have implemented a few changes in response to the Student Voice we collected at the end of Term 2. The wordle above gives a summary of what Year 6 students like about learning in their hub

Some of the changes implemented are:

We have changed the seating plan in the Whanau Huis so students are seated in reverse roll order now and the whanau classes are in a different place. Our aim is to not have it too squashed and to enable all students to see the action easily.

We asked the students how they felt about how many SML tasks they were completing each week, the majority felt quite happy with their completion rate. We have added a points system to SML points now so each week they will record how many points they have earned and this will give a better indication as to how close (or not) they are to reaching expectations and enable us to support students more specifically if they are having difficulties. When students reach the target number of points for SML tasks they are able to work on their Passion Projects. Most students have the target of 20 points and a smaller group work towards earning 15 points. A copy of this week's SML tasks can be viewed at this link. SML Tasks Term 3 Week 1

Learning will be focussing on the following for the next few weeks:

  3. I can give and respond to feedback

  4. I can proofread to check for spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Integrated Learning -  "Learning .......the Qualities". This will involve learning about this term's Learner Qualities which are "Empathy" and "Communicate".  We will also be delving deeper into Oaklands School's Cultural Narrative by way of studying Myths and Legends and learning about the flora and fauna of the area.
