Week 6, Term 4 - Update
As it always does, Term 4 is disappearing at a rapid rate. Here are some important bits of info to help you keep pace.
Swimming at Halswell Outdoor Pool.
We will be swimming each day next week ( Monday 23 - Friday 27 November) at Halswell Outdoor Pool. If your child has neglected to pass the information notice on to you about this you can view it here. We are happy for you to email us permission for your child to attend, if your child has not returned the permission slip yet.
The students will be taking part in a Swimsafe Programme. This sees them participating in a variety of activities including throw bag rescue, swimming fully clothed and buoyancy aid use. We will also be taking part in the ever popular boat session. I am sure your child will have plenty to share after each day's activities.
We will be splitting the students into 4 groups for swimming. These will be based on year level. The instructors will assess each of the groups at the start of the week. They will then create smaller sub groups based based on ability and confidence.
Please ensure that your child has their togs and a dry towel at school each day. There may also be times when extra items are required. We will send out an email notice the night before when/ if this is the case.
We will have a supply of sunscreen with us that we will encourage students to use freely. If your child has specific sunscreen needs, please ensure that these are catered for. We are swimming outside and it may well be hot and sunny.
Swimming in the school pool.
Kauri students can access the school pool each day at one of the break times. This is for recreation swimming. Student are welcome to bring their togs and towel to school each day if they wish to access the pool.
Student Led Conferences
These will be held after school on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 November. At the conference your child will conduct short anonymous survey with on the CARE Values. You can view the 4 questions that they will be asking you here. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
Year 8 Camp at Glentui
We are not letting having to cancel our Wellington trip due to the ongoing Covid-19 debacle dampen our spirits. The Year 8 students and all 3 teachers will be away from Tuesday 1- Friday 4 December for four days of Outdoor Education, fun, games and friendship at Glentui Camp in North Canterbury.
Year 7 Organisation During Year 8 Camp.
Year 7's should attend school as normal while the Year 8 group is away on camp. There will two relievers allocated to the group for the duration of the week. The learning programme will be slightly modified. Year 7's will attend Technology as normal Tuesday 1 December.
On Wednesday and Thursday we have some visiting teachers coming in to run two days of leadership training. This is a great opportunity for the Year 7 group to develop themselves as they prepare to be at the ' top' of the school in 2021.
Year 7/8 Formal
This is scheduled for Wednesday the 16th of December.
Student Leaders 2021
The selection process for student leaders for 2021 begins in earnest next week. This can be stressful time for some students, especially those who heap extra pressure on themselves to get a role.
Students that are interested in being considered for a leadership position need to complete an application. This is done online through the Google Classroom. We encourage you to provide advice and guidance to your child, but we ask that they write their own application in their own words. Thanks for your support with this. Student leaders for 2021 will be announced in week 10 at the prize giving assembly.
The cut off for leadership badges is the end of week 8.
