Year 7/8 Hub Term 2 Wrap Up.
They say time flies when you are having fun. This must mean that we have had some fun because Term 2 seems to have just flown by!
It's hard to believe that we are at the halfway point of the 2020 school year. For the Year 8 group this means that there are only two terms left at Oaklands for them to make their mark and leave their legacy. With the Year 7 group now settled in to life in the Senior School we are looking forward to a very exciting and productive back half of the year.
Before we move forward we'll have a good look back, on the term that was. Enjoy reading some the highlights of our term as penned by the members of the Year 7/8 Hub.
From the Teachers......
Highlights of Term 2: A real highlight for us has been seeing the students come back after lockdown. We have been amazed with how quickly and easily most of the students have slipped back into school life. We have been impressed by the level of time and effort that all of the students have put into their learning this term. Seeing the students tackle a novel study, reading the amazing writing that has been produced and facilitating some big gains in Maths have been real highlights for us.
Challenges of Term 2: The disruption from Covid-19 was undoubtedly a challenge for us. Another challenge has been the weather. There are only so many inside play times that a big group of Year 7 and 8 students can enjoy together. The weather has also slowed our Koru Games preparations. Fingers crossed for better weather next term.
From the Students......
Term 2 highlights:
- Getting my work done in time so I don't need to do the catch up sessions.
- Going to South West Zone Basketball Tournament.
- Coming back to school after lockdown.
- Getting my Merit Badge.
- Not having to get up early in the morning.
- Starting up Koru Games training.
- Maths!
- Getting to see my friends again after lock down.
- Zones of Regulations Integrated Learning.
- Fitness and the running that Mr Brown did with Runners Club.
- Completing the Xtra Maths programme.
Getting back in to normal routine.
Term 2 Challenges.
- Being in lockdown.
- Getting used to the school timetable after lockdown.
- Getting past times tables and learning my division on Xtra Maths.
- Keeping on top of my Novel Study.
- Maths!
- Not having an in person teacher to help support me during lockdown. Also going back to school after lock down was hard with all the changes that were happening at school.
- Zoom classes.
- Doing work in lock down and not having as much teacher support compared to when we are at school. We didn't get as much time with the teachers, but also when you where stuck you had to email them and wait for a reply and they were probably busy with others. This was a big challenge, but on the other hand it was not too bad.
