Week 1 of Term 4 , 2020
The start of term 4 has seen the Year 7/8 hit the ground running.
Term 4 always rushes by in a bit of a blur! With this in mind we are straight into teaching and learning in the Year 7/8 Hub.
Here is a brief run down of what we have been up to.
Formal Dance
The date for the formal is set for Wednesday16 December.
We have started our formal dance programme for 2020. This week the students found out their dance partners. Always a nervous but fun and exciting time for everyone. With nerves out of the way, we have now started our dance instruction. This week the students have learned the Rock and Roll Reel and a Line Dance. It has been great to see the Year 8 students stepping up as role models and pleasing to see the majority of Year 7 students demonstrating resilience as they are faced with the challenge of learning new dances. Have a watch of the video below and see our second go at the Rock and Roll Reel. We are slightly off the beat at times but overall we are doing very well.
This week the students also voted in a Formal Committee. The Committee consists of 6 , Year 8 students. Well done to Issy, Amber, Tia, Thomas, Lincoln, and Ben for being voted in by their peers. This group will be tasked with surveying the rest of the students to help them choose a theme, formal admin and planning and also decorating the hall on the night of the formal.
We will be posting some instructional videos on the blog soon so that you and your child can practice in the comfort of your lounge if you wish.
Uniquely New Zealand
In Term 4 we embark on a unit of learning called Uniquely New Zealand. This sees us learning about some of the things that make Aotearoa so special. Students will rotate trough 3 learning topics. These topics are NZ Parliament, NZ at War and Foundation Documents that have shaped NZ. This is always a popular and engaging unit of learning. Be sure to check in with your child to see what they have been up to in class.
An Update from Mrs Baker
Baby Lachlan Baker is three weeks old today.
Here he is modelling the latest monkey sleepwear. Clearly the young man is going to be at the forefront of fashion as time goes on.
Coming up next week.
It's a busy week next week with lots of things over and above the normal classroom programme happening.
A group of students will be representing us at the Ruapuna Duathlon on Monday. Best of luck to all of them.
Wednesday and Thursday sees the Kauri Athletics taking place.
We have visiting Korfball coaches coming in again on Tuesday afternoon.
Group 1 of the Year 8 students will have their second session at Te Hapua on Friday.
In amongst all of this we'll fit in some learning and dancing. Week 2 should be fun! Check out the timetable below.
As always we invite you to contact us at any stage to discuss your child's progress at school.
Warm regards
Lance, Bryan and Mark
