On the 22nd of March the year 6 students visited Halswell New World to use their food detective skills, by reading food labels, and finding out what is an everyday food and sometimes food.

We learnt so many things on the trip to New World Halswell . So let us tell you all about it.

Hi my name is Ellie, and something that I found interesting was how you can read a label to see if it is an everyday food or a sometimes food.

Hi my name is Blaire, and something that I found interesting was how many different names of different melons there were. I mean, who knew there was a melon called the Hello melon, or as some people like to call them a Golden melon. When we visited New World, we were tasked to walk around the supermarket, and read packaging labels. After we had completed our worksheets, we took a visit to the fresh produce section to write down all of the different types of vegetables and fruit.

Hi my name is Lily, and something that I found interesting was how hard it was to find a healthy muesli bar that will fit within the recommendation of an everyday food .

Here's some information about grain foods. They are a source of fiber which helps with our gut health by keeping us full, and cleaning our small intestines.

Here's some information about vegetables and fruit.

All fruit and vegetables are packed full of vitamins and minerals which help to protect our bodies in different ways.

Three vitamins that are in vegetables and fruit are A, B and C. Vitamin A is important for our help. Vitamin B gives us a boost of energy; C is important for our immunity.

Here is a photo of our worksheet that we used when we were at Halswell New World. We found that Light n Tasty was an everyday food because it had 4 or more ticks. We found that Sultana Bran is a sometimes food because it had only 3 ticks.
