Kōmingo end of term 3 newsletter!
This has been an interesting term seeing what our students have been learning in integrated learning, maths and literacy as well as their interest time! Hear what our students have to say below!
Integrated Learning
Students have been learning about all the different spheres and how they interact with each other. This has been an awesome experience with many students taking action with their learning and making visual representations of their learning.
Student comments:
My highlight for integrated learning this term is learning about the spheres and finding facts about them. I also liked how there was now a big slide for a topic each week. The learning on living springs was also quite enjoyable. The information report and diorama making was also very fun.

My highlight of this term for integrated learning was how we had one big long seesaw post for integrated learning every week and I also enjoyed the must dos. I really like the Week 10 seesaw because we are able to create a model to demonstrate things about a certain sphere. I also liked it because you can choose how you show it and my group is doing Minecraft!

This term I enjoyed learning about camp before we went and after we went. Doing rotations in group 1, group 2,and 3 was good because we had time to catch up. Something fun that we did was learn about volcanoes, because we did

My highlight of the term for Integrated learning is when we learned about the different spheres (4) . I also enjoyed when we had new groups for Integrated learning and they are 1, 2, 3 and Mr Hillary’s group.
Another highlight for me is when we were learning about Living Springs, it was pretty nice even though some parts were a bit hard. Another highlight for me is the research about the different spheres where you chose one and one of the ones I chose is MINECRAFT!!!

I really enjoyed doing the rotations having group 1,group 2, group 3 and Mr Hillary’s group. We all had different groups and I really like how in literacy it's quiet but in integrated learning it has lots of people and you can work with other people. For example, recently we have been working on a project to show how the spheres interact with each other. My group is doing a diorama to show how the biosphere and hydrosphere interact.

This term we have been learning about the spheres in integrated learning we had to think of a sphere to do out of the biosphere, atmosphere, geosphere and the hydrosphere. My group picked the biosphere, we had to think of what we could make for it. We made a diorama and glued dirt and grass to the diorama. Then we started to plant my little garden’s, we had about 12 of them. I can't wait until they sprout. We started to take a photo each day to see the results.

I learned what all the spheres are, but the one that I think is the most interesting to me is the biosphere. It is about all living things like animals and humans. I am making a diorama and it is made with grass and stones and paint.

We are painting some boxes about a sphere we chose. We made the hydrosphere, it is water, waves, rain and it combines with the biosphere. Because all living things need water. We also used ‘little garden’ where we planted little mini gardens that you get from the supermarket.

Mathematics
Our students have been targeting their measurement as well as volume and capacity. Students have been learning across the board great skills to take into the real world.
Literacy
Students have recently just completed some amazing writing samples which included prompts for an information report. This was directed towards their experience at camp as well as some other options for any who didn't go on camp.
Full school assembly
Our first full school assembly this term went really well, congratulations to those to got certificates! Massive shout out to the boys rugby who placed third in the winter sport competition this term!
My i-time
We have had another successful term of my i-time, the students have really taken up their passions and had a great time. Huge thank you to:
Mr Forman - Science
Mr Hillary - Sports
Mr Ladbrook - Stop go animation
Mrs Fuller - Baking
Mr Meyrick - Gardening/ Bee team
Duathlon
Unfortunately the Canterbury Duathlon event was cancelled this year as it was set down to be held on the same day as the country observed a public holiday to acknowledge the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
However, undeterred, an awesome group of athletes have been training regularly for the event at Westlake Park. Using the pathway and grass fields to hone our fitness, we had a great time doing relays and races.
-------------------
For the duathlon trainings we would go to Westlake Park on Mondays,Thursdays, And Sundays. We did lots of activities like going into groups of three and a person would run then tag the bikers then they would go around the lake then tag the other runner to run for the finish. Or the runner would start then tag the 1st biker then the 1st biker would tag the 2nd biker then they would go back and do it again. It would be easy for the last people cause they would get like a 30 or 20 second head start

-------------------------------------
For duathlon training we would come to Westlake reserve Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays. The students doing this would do many different activities from relays to biking for eight minutes straight! Mondays and Thursdays were at 4:30 and Sundays at 9:30. For relays usually we would be able to choose our own groups or get sorted into groups with people who have similar ability. There were multiple different types of relays. My favourite had teams of three. Two bikers and one runner.
