BYOD Parent evening

Are you interested in the BYOD (Bring your own device) options for your child in 2024?

Our community information evening is being held on Tuesday the 17th of October. The session will be held at 5:30pm in the Taiheke space.

Year 5-8 Athletics [ Thursday 19th / Friday 20th ]

We have made a couple of changes to our annual athletics event. It ensures we are catering for all students by providing a chance to experience the different events with large scale participation and the earning of house points; and meeting the desire to enter into competitive competition.

Thursday 19th October

This is our compulsory everyone have a go day. Students will do shot put, discus, high jump, sprints and relays. For these events students will have multiple attempts with the aim of earning house points for their House. Students can earn 1, 2 or 3 points per attempt, and will have a combined total after multiple attempts. They will record their score on their House Points card.

We will begin at 10:45am, finishing up at 2:45pm with our regularly scheduled lunch break.

Friday 20th October

This is our competitive day where students sign up for events, with it being run along the competitive format of club athletics. The results of these events will determine our team for the upcoming SW zones athletics event at Nga Puna Wai on Wednesday, November 8th.

We will run shot put and discus from 9:00 - 10:00am; high jump, long jump and sprints from 10:45 - 12:45pm and long distance from 2:00pm.

Q and A

Can I come and watch?

--> Yes, you are most welcome on any day at any time

What do students wear?

Thursday - House colours is the aim for the day. Definitely House tops. They can dress up a bit and add some face paint. It would add to the festive spirit of the day. Students should wear sport/active wear.

No singlets, please.

Friday - This is a non-uniform day for the school Gala. Students bring a block of chocolate for the Gala. Students who will be competing in an event should wear sport clothing for the day.

FAREWELL MRS FULLER

This week we welcome Mr Dalley to the team as Mrs Fuller goes on maternity leave. We will miss her kindness and laughter.

We have reorganised students into new groupings for literacy and numeracy based on their needs.

We are focusing on multiplicative thinking and financial literacy for mathematics, whilst our literacy focus includes language features such as metaphors, personification and hyperbole - which raises the quality of creative writing.

Term 4 integrated Learning focus

Our term 4 'transformation' focus is: How can we transform our physical environment to represent who we are, what we value and where we have come from?

Using student voice we will look at what we can do at Oaklands to effect this change, and look to incorporate this into our gala performance.

As part of our learning, we are off to the Art Gallery to take part in the Junior Map Maker programme. This 90 minute guided tour also involves students creating an art piece that represents their journey.

We will also visit the Pop-Up Museum in the nearby COCA building as well as enjoy lunch and some fun time at the Margaret Mahy Park.

We do require parent helpers to join us for the day. Mr Forman and Mr Dalley's class will go Monday 6th November; Mrs Patten and Mr Meyrick will go on Tuesday November 7th.

An information and parent request notice will come home with students on Friday. If you are able to join us, or are keen to register your interest, please email us using the email provided.
