Year 7/8 Hub Update
Term 4 is now full steam ahead, with lots of exciting things on the go.
Kauri Athletics
It has been great to see all of our year 7/8 students getting involved in the the Kauri athletics event. Poor weather has resulted in us having to postpone the last part of the Kauri Athletics until Tuesday of next week ( 30 October) after lunch.
There have already been some outstanding performances with many of our students qualifying for the upcoming Zones Athletics competition. The Zones competition will be held at Hillmorton High School and is scheduled for Tuesday 6th of November, with a postponement date ( if necessary) of Thursday 8 November. The Zones team will be finalized shortly after the conclusion of our school athletics sports.
For those that excel at Zones, there will be an opportunity to compete at the Canterbury Champs. The date for this event has been scheduled for Wednesday 5 December. This year the Canterbury Champs will be held at the new Te Puna Wai Sports Facility.
Uniquely New Zealand
As we prepare for our upcoming Wellington Trip, we will be completing a unit of learning that focuses on some key aspects of what it means to be a New Zealander. Students will be learning about WW1 and WW2 and how New Zealanders were involved, Famous New Zealanders in the Wars, The Treaty of Waitangi, The Declaration of Independence, The Women's Suffrage Bill, Parliament and how laws are made in New Zealand. Click on the links below to see exactly what your child will be learning about in each of these units.

Formal Dance
The Year 7/8 Formal is scheduled for Friday 7 December. The theme is Red Carpet/Just a little bit fancy. We have now learned the steps for our Rock n Roll Reel and most of the steps of our Waltz. For our Rock n Roll Reel we are dancing to Steps 5, 6, 7, 8 and we are currently learning to Waltz to Englebert Humperdink's, The Last Waltz. We encourage you to ask you child to show you what they have learned.
Student Leaders trip to the City
On Monday 29 October the Student leaders will be heading in to the City for the day. We will be participating in a Christchurch City Council Education programme called Our City, Otautahi. Students will gain an understanding of what Council does, meet experts who work here, and take on a decision-making role as they plan how to spend ratepayer’s money. We conclude with a visit to Council Chambers to see where key local government decisions are made.We will also be heading in to the City for lunch to celebrate a solid year of working together as a student leadership team. This promises to be a fun day and will no doubt be enjoyed by students, parents and teachers.
Student Led Conferences
These are scheduled for Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 November. More info to come in the near future on these.
As always we are happy to discuss your child's progress at school with you at anytime. Email is the best method of communication for setting up meeting times or pop in to school before 9am for a chat.
