Week 9 in Kōmingo Yr5/6

Caleb Meyrick —

What a week! From Integrated Learning projects to Canterbury Swimming with Mr Forman, everything has been on track for success!

Integrated Learning

In Kōmingo we have been taking all of our learning around cultural landmarks and we have been designing and creating our own. The students have been exploring their own cultures to create and present their own cultural landmarks. This has been really exciting to watch the students explore so many different cultures and learn about others.

Students have also been working on completing their mihi. They will be posting these over the next week on their Seesaw. They have done an amazing job at recording these.

We need your help!

As we have started creating in the classroom, we have noticed that we are lacking creative resources such as cardboard and random plastic containers etc. If anyone has any excess materials then please send them into school so we can put them to use!

Whānau Breakfast

8:30 am on Monday 3 April, please bring a plate of food to share and whānau are welcome to stay at 9am when students will be able to share any of their recent learning with them.

Netball Club

Senior students have organised a Netball Club on Thursday morning tea. This is for all students as well as students looking to get some pre-season training in before the winter season starts.

Cold weather

Winter weather is coming upon us, can you please ensure students have their warm clothes on for outside play.

Canterbury Swimming

On Thursday, the amazing Alanya Veendrick represented Oaklands and the South West zone at the Centrals Swim Champs held at the Selwyn Aquatic Centre in Rolleston. Swimmers from as far north as Cheviot, as far south as Ashburton and as far west as the West Coast were in attendance. Although not placing in the top 10, Alanya did herself and Oaklands proud, and we look forward to watching her creep up the placings ladder in the following years.

Collaboration in practice

As part of our collaborative practice, two out of the four classes have switched spaces to ensure students are collaborating across the whole team. Currently, Mrs Patten's class is sharing a side with Mrs Fuller's class and Mr Meyrick's class is sharing a side with Mr Forman's class.
