Online learning in the 7/8 Hub
Please find some information to help your online learning.
The school holidays are from the 30th March to the 14th April 2020. Term 2 will start on Wednesday 15th April. Learning will be online.
All teachers will be on term break until the 15th April 2020. They will be in contact with all the students on Wednesday 15th April with your online learning and contacting students by Zoom during the week.
Just a reminder that the email address for our hub is year7and8hub@oaklands.school.nz - this email will come to all 3 teachers.
We have provided a number of resources to support your child with their learning.
Learning sites-
Zoom
Google classroom
IXL
Xtramath
Students have individual login details for IXL and Xtramath. If your child cannot access their account they can contact us and we can reshare their details. If you need help with any of these learning sites please email us.
This week we are having contact with students through a site called Zoom. Zoom is a video site to enable us to connect with your child. At the start of Term 2, students will continue to be contacted online through Zoom. Each week a hub teacher will contact students online to chat with them and check on their well being. Our Zoom groups and timetable can be found here.
There will also be a slideshow with new learning added each week. The learning will be for the remainder of this week, 26-27th March, then for the start of Term 2 Wednesday 15th April. The slideshow will have a schedule of learning to support your child. However, you know your own child and your own personal circumstances. Learning needs to be fun and have choices. The learning will include a variety of learning activities. Our timetable is a guide.
Be kind to each other. Take care of yourself and your family. What your child needs right now is to feel comforted and loved. To feel like it’s all going to be okay. So going for a walk, baking, painting, playing board games and watching movies will be important over the next few weeks. Start a book as a family and read together. At the end of all of this, your child’s mental health will be more important than their academic skills. How they felt during this time will stay with them long after the memory of what they did during the weeks is long gone.
Each day your teachers will check emails from you or your child by 11.30 am and will be in contact regarding your queries.
Good Manners When Online
Students must remember to follow our Cybersafety Guidelines when communicating with others online.
We are going to encourage students to use their emails to keep in contact with their peers, although keep in mind teachers are able to monitor these messages. We will be notified of any inappropriate language that is used and will forward this to the parents.
We know this is a difficult time for everyone and we want to help to support you and your child. Please let us know if there is anything we can do.
Kind Regards,
Sarah, Lance and Bryan
