Term 2 Week 1

Danny Hillary —

Below is an outline of some learning and important events coming up for Year 5/6

Year 5 Camp

The main event in the future, or next week on Thursday and Friday is the Year 5 Camp. Students have been doing some learning around the camp and we have lots of excited students.

Attached is a timetable and a gearlist for the parents of Year 5 students to refer to. Paper copies have already been sent home.

Bunkroom groups and Activity groups will be set up with the children, early week 2.

The parents/caregivers attending are....

Ian Montegue-Ebbs

Katy Wallace

Lisa Weston

Pip McKay

Hamish or Ebony McKenzie

Louis McClintock

Juanita Davidson

Jeanine Topleen

Rob Lomas

Kim Thomas

Joe Bebbington

James Cobley

We had some other offers from parents. The office is still awaiting some police vetting to come back. Please contact the office over any queries about this.

Students who require medication should have indicated this on the health profile. Please send specific instructions and medication to school on Thursday morning, or before. This should be in a sealed bag and given to teachers.

Students will need to come to school with a full packed lunch to sustain them for the first day, up until tea/dinner on the first day. We will also purchase some extras for afternoon tea on Thursday and morning tea on Friday. The camp cost covers dinner/tea on Thursday. Breakfast on Friday and Lunch on Friday.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact

Year 6 at school (next week)

Next week, while the Year 5s are on camp, the Year 6s will be continuing on with the regular programme. There will be an emphasis on some pre-camp learning to get them ready for the following week's camp.

The teachers working with the Year 6s and Year 5s who are not attending the camp will be a mixture of Trish Patten, Donna McLeod and three relieving teachers.

Year 6 Camp (19-21 May)

Further details will be posted next week.

Learning

We have begun the Term with a focus on Camps and Maths. The students have been learning about Time. Here is some student voice...

Student voice

Sammy: I would still like to know how to reed a 24 hour clock.

Kaira: This week we have been learning about time and clocks.

Emily G: Now i understand more about time because we have been learning about it.

Nevaeh: I am proud of the way I have learnt how to read clocks in maths.

Year 5-8 Cross Country Running Event

This event is on Monday 10 May at Westlake Park. The children were asked if they wished to enter. Those students who did would have come home with a paper notice about this. We plan to leave about 11am and return by 1pm. The pp day is 12 May.

Home Learning expectations

  • Reading every day for the 40 book challenge. (totalling 1 hour a week) The students have learning around this at school.

  • Maths: We have introduced a website called Maths Prodigy to the children. At this stage we'd like you and your child to make yourself familiar with it. Over the coming weeks we will start to use it more strategically and establish some expectations for home learning.

  •  Ask your child about it, they all seem to be engaged with it.
