Grant Forman —

At the recent 9th Grade Waimak Football Tournament held in Rangiora at the weekend a number of talented football players from Oaklands took part.

Playing for the Halswell Eagles, Kade Robinson, Dylan Jessop and Josh Stutteridge did very well, placing 14th out of 32 teams. Well done, boys.

The mighty Halswell Hawks team, including Baxter Coughlan, Jayden Scott, Jasper Robinson and Matthew Randell from Oaklands came an outstanding 3rd out of 32 teams. A fantastic result. Great to see Oaklands students out there achieving on the sport field.

Baxter Coughlan had the added honour of being selected as the MVP for his Halswell Hawks team.

Live from the field: We actually had a reporter at the event, and he is what they had to say, "They had to play six games during the day, they experienced the thrill of winning all three pool games and then the quarter final game before losing in a semi-final - this team was gutted at that but picked themselves up again to play in the third & fourth playoff game which they won on a penalty shootout (Baxter was the goalkeeper for the penalty shootout & did some great saves, he was also awarded Most Valuable Player of the day for this Halswell Team). These boys showed so much commitment, determination & wonderful sportsmanship all day."

Good on you, boys.
