Writing

Shannon King —

We are learning to write a sentence.

Our writing is beginning to develop as our confidence and knowledge of alphabet letters, their sounds and shapes grow.

In our writing sessions we begun with Casey the Caterpillar. This was to help us with the formation of shapes which we were able to join together to make letters of the alphabet.

We then looked at the letters and what sound check letter makes, as we build our knowledge of the alphabet we are able to hear and write more letters in new words. When we are writing our stories we say each word- listening for the beginning sound we can hear. We then match it with to our alphabet card, learning the letter, its sound and something beginning with that letter.  As our knowledge develops we are able to stretch out new words to hear and write the dominant middle and end sounds.

As we become confident readers and writers we are beginning to transfer our knowledge and write words that we have been focusing on in our guided reading sessions.  As we learn new words we are able to join them together to make a sentence.

We are using the writing spaces to practise our skills through card making, shopping lists, writing new words, copying words from story books and writing stories.
