Year 7/8 Hub Update

Sarah Berquist —

Integrated Learning -

We are well underway with our taking action phase of our Sustainability Integrated Learning. Our Big Idea: How can I protect the planet and its dwindling resources. Many of our students have chosen to up-cycle plastics and cardboard to give a new life to what would usually be recycled.

Excellence Leadership Badges -

Well done to Annabel Keylard, Ashley White, Karlie Wright and Charlotte Koers who received their Excellence Leadership badge at assembly on Monday.

To achieve EXCELLENCE you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Participate fully in your Leadership role ( PALs, Peer Mediator, Librarian, Assembly Crew.)
  • Complete your leadership role 8 more times.
  • Get involved and make a difference in other areas of school life 10 more times.
  • Complete 6 new Home Learning Challenges (at least one from each value.) You will need to be able to show evidence that you have completed these to get them signed off.

Te Hapua -

7/8SB started their second half of sessions at Te Hapua today. Coding and Robotics/Electronics groups have swapped sessions for the final 3 weeks.

7/8LM will be attending Te Hapua for 6 sessions in Term 3. A notice went home on Tuesday with further information about this. We have spare notices in the classroom if your child did not bring one home.

Bullying-Free NZ Week Competition -

Congratulations to Madeline Laing and Ashley White who won first prize in the Intermediate PowerPoint Category in the Bullying-Free NZ Week Competition. The judges commented that they had a sharp presentation that used clean and clear design to give a comprehensive summary of the school's bullying prevention activities.

The girls have won $500 for the school and a Bullying-Free NZ Award Certificate.

Please see their winning entry here

Year 6 Parent Evening Open Evening -

On Tuesday we had an open evening for the Year 6 students and their parents to find out more about the Yr 7/8 Hub at Oaklands.

A big thank you to Noah King, Zara Munro, Annabel Keylard, Charlotte Koers, Felix Barnes, Ella Wilson, Ashley White, Karlie Wright, Taylor Foster, Jak O'Connell, Hannah Wallace and Sam Iffland for presenting information and for answering questions about our Hub at this evening. You all did an awesome job!

Koru Games -

We apologise for an error in the Koru Games notice that came home earlier this week. We are aware that there were 2 different sets of dates on this notice. The correct dates are Tuesday 18th, Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th September. Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you to the parents who have returned the slip advising that they are able to assist with the sports on these days.

Year 8 Chocolate Fundraiser -

There are still plenty of boxes left to sell. We encourage students to keep selling chocolates to raise money towards their Wellington Camp. Students need to return money and permission form for more chocolates on a Wednesday morning.
