Student Led Conferences in Week 6

Caroline Martin —

Student Led Conferences are an important opportunity for learners to reflect on their learning goals and share their successes and next steps with you.

Research shows that developing a students ability to talk about their learning is important because  it puts them at the centre of their own learning and gives them the opportunity to practice significant real-life skills.

This year we have made changes to the way Student Led Conferences are managed to reflect the collaborative, hub based approach to learning at Oaklands.  In Term 2 we ran collaborative student led conferences across all hubs for the first time.  We have reviewed the format for these conferences based on parent feedback, student voice and teacher reflections and the following changes will apply to the Student Led Conferences coming up this term:

1. We will not need to close school early on either day as running multiple conferences at once allows us to get through all of the conferences from 3:30  over two days, with one late night.

2. We will develop several videos demonstrating how Student Led Conferences are run and share these with new teachers and parents so they can understand how the process works.

3. All hubs will display a timetable showing when you are scheduled to meet with the teacher for your 10 minute slot and which teacher you will be meeting with. For the remaining 20 minutes students will take you through their literacy and maths learning with the support of the roving teachers.
