Parking concerns at Jarrow Place entrance

Caroline Martin —

Please find below a letter to parents from Brad Hagerty, NZ Police regarding parking around Oaklands School.

Dear Caregivers,

Over the last few months I have been in consultation with Oaklands Primary regarding ongoing road safety issues around the school.

In response to this Police, School staff and selected senior students are reviewing driver behaviour and developing sustainable strategies to enhance safety. This process will be ongoing over the next few weeks and includes recording data, implementing strategies and where appropriate dealing with unsafe driver behaviour. It is intended that we will engage with the Council as part of this process where appropriate.

Although there are some environmental challenges I would like to remind all caregivers that convenience should never take priority over a child’s safety.

Unsafe behaviours that are consistently observed include:

· Parking across driveways

· Double parking

· Parking in ‘No parking zones’

I welcome any feedback you may have on this issue and look forward to working with the Oaklands School Community to achieving some positive improvements.

Kind regards,

Brad HAGERTY
