Hub 7/8 - Never a dull moment!

Lance Muller —

This week has been busy and productive in the Year 7/8 Hub.

Two key statements that we live by in the Year 7/8 Hub are.......

Get Involved, Make a Difference!

Ma Mahi Ka Ora - Through Hard Work You Will Prosper!

This past week has been busy and productive and we have more than lived by these two motivational mantras.

Technology

Technology is now back up and running at Lincoln Primary School each week with students involved in design and innovation, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math), E-textiles and Food. If you didn't see this weeks newsletter, make sure to click on this link as there is a great article on Technology, as well as many photos of Year 7/8 students in action.

Koru Games

Koru Games is a multi-day, multi-sport tournament for South Island year 7 & 8 students. This year the tournament will be held over three days from 15 - 17 September.

This week we started our build up to this significant sporting event. This year we are aiming to send Football, Volleyball, Netball and Rugby7'8 and Touch Rugby teams to the Koru Games.

Trials were held this week for Rugby 7's and Netball. Next week we will be holding trials for Football, Touch Rugby and Volleyball. After a long break from sport, there is a real buzz amongst the students and everyone is excited to back out on the sports field.

More information on the Koru Games is available on the official Koru Games Website.

We hold weekly training sessions on a Tuesday afternoon from 1:45 - 3pm. We welcome expressions of interest from any whānau that may be interested in helping out at either training sessions or during the course of the 3 days of competition in September.

Kelly Sports Thursdays

Each Thursday we enjoy a session with visiting coach Hugh from Kelly Sport. Hugh has been teaching us a range of games requiring little or no equipment. These Thursday sessions are fast becoming a weekly highlight and it has been good to see some of the games that have been taught, being recreated at break times. Check out the video of our recent Kelly Sports session in the image gallery of this post.

Bake Sale

The Year 8's held a fundraising bake sale on Wednesday. The selection of yummy goodies was overwhelming. The Student Leaders (supported by Manda and Susan) led from the front, taking full responsibility for set up, sales, money handling and pack up of the bake sale. The bake sale was very successful and we sold out of all baked goods halfway through morning tea. Over $700 was raised, all of which will go towards the year 8 trip to Wellington.

ePro8 Challenge

This week we launched ePro8. A new initiative in the Year 7/8 Hub, ePro8 is Technology, Engineering, Maths, Science and Problem Solving competition all rolled in to one. Teams of 4 compete over a given time to complete a number of challenges. Check out the ePro8 website here.  Oaklands is able to enter two teams of 4 into the competition. We have had a lot of interest in the ePro8 challenge. We will be asking students that have registered interest to complete an application for us outlining why they think they would be a good addition to an ePro8 Team. Watch this space.

Timetable for next week is as below:
