Maths in Hub 4
This term during Numeracy, Hub 4 explored the strand of Geometry.
Geometry is the area of mathematics dealing with three-dimensional solids, plane shapes, points, lines, curves, surfaces and angles, and their position, size and relationships in space.
In this unit we learned how to:
Sort, compare and classify 2D and 3D objects such as triangle, square, oblong, circle, oval, pentagon, hexagon, diamond, box, cylinder, and sphere
Describe shape attributes in their own language and basic mathematical language – e.g. corner, side
Identify 2D and 3D shapes by name
Explore and describe faces, edges, and corners of 2D and 3D objects
Make, name and describe polygons and other plane shapes
Use our new knowledge of shapes and solids to design and construct a model.
Use measuring tools such as a ruler and a protractor
Student Voice:
Question: What did you like about Geometry?
- Making a Geometric city.
- Learning about new shapes.
- Making the cities because it was a challenge.
- Learning about 3-D shapes.
- Learning the difference about a polygon and a solid.
- Making 3-D buildings was lots of fun.
