Oaklands School Learner Qualities
The learner qualities are the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will be developed over a students 8 years at Oaklands School to help them to become Lifelong learners who aspire to excellence.
Researchers from around the world asked employers to identify the skills and attributes that employees will need to have to be able to contribute positively to workplaces and communities now and in the future. At Oaklands School we summarized this research under 8 key themes and this year our integrated learning is focusing on unpacking these learner qualities with our students.
So far this year we have focused on Belonging, Collaborating, Questioning and Connecting and this term we are exploring Communicating and Empathy. At our whole school assembly on Monday I shared a couple of videos which illustrate why communicating and showing empathy are so important and I have linked these to this article if you would like to view them with your child/ren:
Example of communication & empathy
One of the ways we develop Empathy at Oaklands School is using the Bucket Filler Philosophy which focuses on students trying to fill other peoples buckets and make a positive contribution in someone else's life.
