House Leaders for 2015

Steve Ladbrook —

As part of the Year 7/8 Leadership Programme we have House Captains who lead their house and organise events for their house.

The Role Of A House Captain

What is the House Captain’s role? The House Captain’s role is to organise activities and to lead your house (Miro, Kowhai, Rimu, Rata) to victory in the house points competition. Part of being a House Captain is to turn up to meetings at 8:00 am on Thursdays, to discuss how you feel in your role as House Captain, and how Mr Ladbrook could help you do better in your role. We also discuss upcoming events, and how we could incorporate house points into it, and how we could help.

Mr Ladbrook Guidance

Part of Mr Ladbrook commitment to the House Captains, is to help them as a leader, and to become more comfortable in their role throughout the year. Mr Ladbrook has continually helped us throughout the year, and we all have something to learn from him as leaders.

The Skills Needed As A House Captain

As a House Captain, you need to have certain skills, to be the best you can be, in your role. For example, you need to be able to practice what you preach, like, if you talked about being sensible in the playground in assembly, and you were seen being stupid in the playground, you would be seen as a liar, or a hypocrite. Another value you need to have, is to communicate well with other people. For example, as a House Captain, you constantly have to communicate with other, leaders, or teachers etc. One last one is, you need a good alarm clock, to be at meetings.

I really enjoyed being a House Captain because of all the great opportunities we had during the year.I also found it helpful the early meetings we had with Mr Ladbrook because he gave us helpful tips on how to be the best House Captain possible. (Emma Humphries Miro House Captain)

I really enjoyed being Rimu House Captain because we had a lot of opportunities to show our leadership skills. I found that the meeting we had with mr ladbrook helpful because at the start of the year i was not that good at public speaking but now I’m better at it.(Reuben Glenday Rimu Captain)

I enjoyed being Rata House Captain because we got to help with Assembly and other things like the Kākano Cross Country. I found getting advice from Mr Ladbrook was helpful and I learnt about not being a hypocrite.(Cassidy Berry Rata House Captain)

I really enjoyed my role as Rimu House Captain. The thing I enjoyed the most about my role was all the opportunities I had, like organising games for cross country, Run bike etc.During the year I learnt a lot of leadership skills such as talking in front of crowds and how to properly read speeches. (Hayley Whiu - Rimu House Captain)

I enjoyed being a house captain this year because I was a big part in the school. But something I found challenging was staying sitting up at the front of assembly and always doing the right thing and being a perfect role model. (Rosie Pentecost Rata House Captain)

I have really enjoyed being the Kowhai house captain for 2015. My overall favourite part of this year as a house captain has been hosting the capture the flag tournament. A challenge that i've faced this year has been setting up the run, bike, run and cross country activities. (Tom Allatt Kowhai House Captain)
