What a Year It Has Been!

Sandra Seil —

Transformation was our topic for the year, with each term having a different focus. We explored this through Integrated Topic, Reading, Writing, Maths and Trips.

In Term 1 we looked at how Christchurch has changed as a result of migration.  This included a trip to Ferrymead, designing and racing our own wakas, Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) and many learning stations exploring the changes in population and transport among other things.

Term 2 brought the excitement of transformation through light and sound.  We did many science experiments to explore how light and sound works, and used this new knowledge to design costumes for our Matariki school production.

Heating and Cooling transformation was the focus for Term 3.  This also involved experiments, as well as integrating our maths to look at temperature, volume and capacity and time.  Making soup, popcorn, ice cream and playdough may not seem like maths, but it definitely is!

Term 4 has focused on how we can transform the environment to represent who we are, what we value and where we have come from.  We did self portraits, went to Halswell Quarry and finished the term with celebrations around the world.

Here are the highlights of the year for all in our Kaitiaki class:
