Week 7 Term 2 In Review

Maria Brennan —

Check Out What’s Been Happening in Hub 4 This Week!

Literacy

The students are well into writing their information reports and are now looking more closely at what they can do to improve their writing. Our focus this term has been on giving both oral and written feedback to students about their writing. From here we are giving the students the tools so that they can take action on this feedback and make improvements to their writing.

In Mr Sy’s Literacy class they have continued with their 'Literacy Through Storytelling'. The students are engaged and loving the opportunity to explore writing in a different way.

Maths

The students’ have just finished their Geometro cities which concluded our shapes and solids unit. They are now on display in each of our learning zones and look amazing! Check out some of our cities below.

Our Geometro City Highlights…

Isis – I loved being able to do this with my group without having any particular instructions on what to put on or where to stick things.

Dominic – I liked how Lachlan and I could put anything we liked in our city. I also liked how it was challenging especially, when we were trying to put the signs up and they kept falling over.

Lily – I liked that Pixie and I worked well together as a team.

Zach H - I liked how you got to stick 3D buildings on your city and that we got to colour them in.

Max – I loved making the solids even though they were difficult to make. I also liked being the boss!

Anika – I liked everything because I could go wild with my imagination!

Elise – I liked that we didn’t have to follow any instructions and that we got to do what we wanted.

Cameron – I liked that we got to make the buildings. I found the cylinder buildings harder but I got the hang of them in the end!

In Maths, this week we have started our numeracy unit with the focus on developing the students’ knowledge and strategies in multiplication and division.

Integrated Learning

This week the students all started the last rotation for this part of our Integrated Learning programme. 4LB started this week looking at water power – the water cycle, the history of the water wheel and the design and construction of their group water wheels which will be tested next week. 4MS started looking at wind power and are all looking forward to designing and constructing their wind wheels next week. 4MB have started looking at solar power and are designing and constructing their solar ovens.

Next week we will conclude these lessons before moving onto the last part of our Term 2 unit.

House Keeping

We have headlice in the hub. Please see the blog post for information on how to get rid of these.
