Well done to everyone who has received an award this week. We are all very proud of you.

New Learning in the Year 7/8 Hub

This week we have started a new unit of learning called ' Have your say.' We are making the most of the upcoming General Election and using this as a learning opportunity. Our Reading and Writing for the rest of this term will be based on this Integrated Unit.

The BIG IDEA in our new unit of learning is that....

Making big life choices requires you to be informed.

Being informed allows you to make good choices.

Clicking on this link will take you to the Modelling Slide for this new unit of learning.

Kids Voting – Te Pōti a Ngā Tamariki

We have registered for this fun and exciting learning opportunity which aims to give the students a first-hand voting experience with the Electoral Commission’s civics education programme, Kids Voting - Te Pōti a Ngā Tamariki.

Students will vote for real life parties and candidates using ballot papers and compare their results with the outcome of the 2020 General Election and referendums.

Our aim is to foster the next generation of civic-savvy New Zealanders and empower young people to have their say when it’s their turn to vote.

An update on events outside of school.

Cantamaths is unfortunately cancelled for 2020. We acknowledge Osian Wilson, Luke McIntosh, Isabella Ge, Erica Yin, Rose Brorens, Melissa Randall, Matthew Randall and Thomas White who would have represented us, had the event continued as normal.

The Canterbury Winter Tournament remains on at this stage. This is scheduled for the 18th of September. Our Rugby team will be representing us at this event. Fingers crossed it goes ahead.

The Ellesmere Speech Competition is scheduled for the 21st of September. Lanica Schnetler and Melissa Randall will be representing us at this event. Fingers crossed that this event goes ahead as well.

Coming up next week.

Check out the timetable for next week below. The notable event next week is our Taiheke Sports competition. The cancellation of Koru Games is not going to stop us having our own celebration of sport in the Year 7/8 Hub! Fingers crossed for some good weather which will allow us to get out for some fun and games.
