Wellington Camp - 2019

Bryan Brown —

"This has been the best four days of my life"

The year has come to an end and as a Year 8 student, one of the lasting memories you will take with you is of your last camp at Primary School. This year was no different.

Tuesday 10th December

We started the trip at 6:30am at the Addington Train Station. Many students were amped for the trip on the Coastal Pacific Railway from Christchurch to Picton. From there we sailed across the Cook Strait on the Ferry to Wellington.

Upon reaching the YHA and settling into our bunkrooms, we ate Dominos Pizza and then went to a large walk down the waterfront to Parliament and then returned to the YHA for a good night rest.

Wednesday 11/ Thursday 12th December

For some, the days started early, 6am early....Runners Club was pounding the waterfront pavement for an early morning run. This was followed by a fast turn around where groups travelled to Parliament for some mock debate (Fish and Chips with Ruth Dyson) sessions and He Tohu to see the founding documents that have shaped New Zealand. They swapped for the second day.

From there, on Wednesday we went to the Reserve Bank of New Zealand for some more learning and many enjoyed taking their picture with $1,000,000. On the Thursday we went to Westpac Stadium for a tour of their 400 million dollar facility.

For tea on both nights the groups were split, one went to McDonalds and the other had tea at the YHA and vice versa.

After tea, we started our night time activities which consisted of:

Capital E: This is a live video recording of a script where students present the news with a twist.

Rock Climbing: Students rock climbed on the waterfront at Fergs Rock Climbing Centre.

Friday 13th December

Friday rolled around extremely quickly. We finished our trip with a stroll to the cable car and a walk through the Wellington Botanic Gardens. Students then had an option of playing touch or going to Te Papa.

We then travelled to Wellington Airport where students had the $10 dollar challenge for Tea.
