Physical Activity Leaders 2018

Lance Muller —

More people, more active, more often. These are the words that have inspired and motivated the PALs this year. Read their thoughts on their year below.

Daniel H: Being a PAL this year was fun, but mostly challenging. I did not enjoy missing a lunch time or morning tea to do a PALs duty. Doing PALs for the Kauri team was way easier than doing PALs for the Kakano team because I more or less know the games that the older kids would like to play, but I am not familiar with most of the games that the younger kids play. You can also get the older kids to follow an instruction the first time, rather than trying to get the younger kids to do something. My advice to the future PALs is try to keep it calm when somebody does not listen to you and just carry on doing the activity.

Sadiyah: This year was a challenging year of being a PAL because we had new partners that we worked with. At the start of the year I was partnered with Riley but in term 3 we changed our partners (Libby and Paige). Working with the two of them was good because we understand each other and our game choice was the same. A message to the future PAL Leaders are to choose a variety of games each rotation.

Riley: My second year of being a PAL was alright although I didn’t enjoy it as much as last year. At the start of the year I was doing it with Sadiyah but Term 3 I changed peers and I didn’t like it because I had to do it by myself half the time. Doing it with Kauri is way easier than with Kakano because seniors know what they like and they listen better, but juniors don’t.

Noah: I have been a PAL for 2 years and I enjoyed it. I found it fun because I got to run a game for other people with my friends. I found it really challenging when we were on Kakano because they are younger children and they don't listen to us very well which makes our job a lot harder. My advice to future PALS is don't worry about people who are doing the wrong thing just focus on the people doing the right thing.

Tr'e: I found really challenging to turn up and do my duty. My advice to future PALs is to turn up and do your duty. You will probably have some fun.

Brayden W: I think PALs went good. I think PALS this year was fun because it was fun working with the school in different games. It was challenging sometimes because people did not listen.

Sam I: PALs was fun because I got to set up games with Daniel H. The only annoying thing was missing out on 1 break time, it's not that bad though. It is easier to do the Kauri Pals because Kauri students listen more and I enjoy setting up Kauri activities.

Paige: PALs was challenging because when I first did PALs I was on a Tuesday so it was hard because the year 7/8 hub has technology so we had to run off the bus and put everything away than get ready. The best part of PALs was when we had lots of people join our games or activities and had fun. This his term I did PALs on a Thursday so it wasn’t that hard. It was hard when people didn’t listen to me or the other PALs mostly the year 1,2,3 didn’t listen much . I'm going to do PALs next year too because it was really fun for me.

Marcus: PALs was an interesting experience that I enjoyed. It was my first year so I didn’t know my way around. I feel like I got the hang of it around term two. One of the harder things was remembering what to do and not do. On a Wednesday, as I had a lot going on on a Wednesday. Some people would not listen or do the right thing which made things considerably harder, but I feel I handled it appropriately.

Keira: When we started PALs it was hard because we started on Tuesdays.  I was in a three with Libby and Paige but Tuesdays we have Technology which went we had to run from the bus to get the PALs equipment we needed then run to the field to set up the activity.

Joey: It was okay being a PALl this year but it was also hard with the Kakano team because they were being kind of annoying and messing around with the equipment but it was also fun that we were aloud to play as well.

Liam S: I enjoyed PALs this year, it was hard but fun to do because you were able to join in with the games, The only annoying thing was that sometimes the little kids would not listen to you when you asked them to do something.

Felix: I liked being a PAL because it was fun and positive. I loved doing activities for the Kauri team and also the Kakano team. My favourtie activity was running soccer.

Jack W: I enjoyed being a PAL this year but it was challenging when the junior team would not listen and were being annoying. It was also challenging because you would miss your lunch time play. It was fun to learn all of the different games that we could play. I enjoyed working with a buddy and giving out pozis. If it was wet outside we would get the opportunity to run jump jam in the hall.

Oli: I enjoyed this role because you got to have fun with the people who played with you. Another part that I liked was giving out pozi’s (GO MIRO!!) Another thing that I liked was working with a friend while doing it.

Libby: When we first started PALs it was very challenging because our day was Tuesday and we had Technology right before so we had to run from the bus to a teacher then to the P.E shed and finally to the field to set up. But over the last two terms it has been heaps of fun because we changed our day to Thursday and don’t need to rush as much. We also get to play better games because we now do Kauri.

Micah: I really enjoyed PALs because we got run activities with the juniors and the seniors although sometimes the kids would not listen.  I love leading games.
