Week 9 in Review

Samantha Doig —

Check out what Hub 2 has been up to this week.

Reading

In Miss Doig and Mrs Griffiths's groups, the children have been continuing to work on managing themselves and making sure they get their weekly activities done and done to their highest standard. They are continuing to work hard on sounding out the words they are reading, practicing their sight words, and self-correcting errors during their reading sessions.

In Chapter Chat this week with Mrs King students have enjoyed listening to Mr and Mrs Twit's revenge on each other while getting more info on their background such as they used to train monkeys in the circus. They have then been comprehending this information and making sense of it through completing their weekly booklet.

Writing

In our Writing this week we read about, made and played with Oobleck. Check out some of our stories-

We did a amazing experiment. We used some water and some cornflour and some food colouring. It was so slimy, yucky, and gooey. We liked it. It was so cool and it blew my socks off. - Toby

A slimy experiment happened and this is how we made oobleck. Cornflour, green food coloring, and water. When you put your hand in it was hard and sticky and slimy and gooey. It was so cool and when your hand went in again it turned to liquid.  - Harrison

The experiment was cool it's oobleck and when you pick it up it falls out of your hands. We made oobleck with green food coloring, water, and cornflour. It made oobleck. - Riley

A slimy experiment happened we had a ice cream tub and we put cornflour in the ice cream tub ad we poured water in the cornflour and green food colouring into the ice cream tub too. Next we mixed the green food colouring in a try and then it made oobleck and it was gooey and wonderful. - Ruby N

Mathematics

This week we have continued learning about time. In Miss Doig's class students have been drawing clocks, ensuring the numbers are in the right spaces and working out time word problems. In Mrs Griffith's class students made clocks showing their favourite time of day aswell as looked at finding hours and half hours on the big clock. In Mrs King's class students have been sequencing events within their days using morning tea and lunch as the main events and working backwards and forwards.

All classes have had a chance to get onto Maths Whizz to practice not only a variety of Maths skills but also their IYT skills, through logging themselves in on the ipads.

Integrated Topic

For Integrated Topic, we have completed our paper Hub 2 design plans and have used these to construct our 3D plans using recycled items. This will help us plan where we put the furniture when we move over the holidays, using student voice to guide our decision making. Thank you for all those that donated their recycling to our construction. The students are very proud of their team creations, photos are below.

Te Reo Maori

This week was Maori language week. Each morning we greeted each other using Te Reo through saying Kia ora or Morena and also asking Kei te pehea koe? (How are you?), students became very confident at responding saying for example Kei te pai (I am good).

We also continued to practice our multiple karakia we are learning to say each morning, afternoon, and before eating.
