Te Hapua Term 1

Lance Muller —

This week we complete our final session of our first of three rotations at Te Hapua. We have had 6 weeks of fun and learning, based around photography and 3D design and printing.

It has been pleasing to see how well the students have engaged in the programme at Te Hapua this term. They have approached all of the challenges set for them with energy and enthusiasm and they have lived our Year 7/8 motto of ' get involved, make a difference.'

In Photography the students have learned a range of photographic tips and tricks. They have then been able to apply these using some high tech cameras. They have used Lego mini figurines as the focus of their photos and it has been impressive to see creativity and imagination being used to set up a range of scenes for shooting.

In 3D design and print the students have used an online design programme called 123D. They have learned the ins and outs of this programme ( no mean feat) and have then put their knowledge into practice by designing a key ring with a a secret compartment. The computers at Te Hapua are available each weekend  for those wishing to further explore 123D and items can be 3D printed for a small fee.

Read what some of the student's thoughts on their Te Hapua experience below:

Amber: It's a great idea that we are able to do this at Te Hapua. I have enjoyed getting to move around and take photos in a whole lot of different places.

Aidan: Photography was cool because we got to take photos outside. I enjoyed using the computer to edit the photos.

Carter: I liked 3D design and print. It was fun using the computer to design my key ring.

Annabel: I enjoyed taking photos with proper fancy cameras.

Hannah: I enjoyed the challenge of  breaking the codes and opening the locks. We did this as part of designing our key ring in 3D design and print.

Paige: I liked doing Hama beads as part of 3d design because we got to make whatever we wanted.

Keira: I found it fun taking photos outside. I liked the alphabet photo challenge. We had to find letters of the alphabet in the environment and take photos of them.

Luca: I have enjoyed being able to make a key ring with a compartment because I had because I had never done 3d design and print before.

Matthew: I liked using Lego mini figures during photography.
