Let's celebrate Maori New Year.

The children explored one of the stories that explain Matariki. This one was about seven sisters. The children are able to sequence events to give you the full story.

We discussed the the important job the sisters had and in independent journal writing, the children wrote the important jobs people in their family have.
Isabella wrote her Dad has fun with her.
Thomas wrote his Dad is a cook.
Megan wrote her brother plays with her.

We talked about the ways we perceive stars and the discussion came around to wishing on a star. In guided writing, the children wrote what they wished to get better at at school. They then published the wish on a star.
The wishes ranged from running to writing to reading and maths.
