Chinese Language Week

Rebecca Pilbrough —

We welcomed in Chinese Language Week with children singing 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' in Chinese at our full school assembly.

The children have loved being involved in activities associated with Chinese Language Week.

In the morning we say 'ni hao' as our greeting, 'xiexie for thank you and 'zai jian' when we say goodbye. We have had giggles singing Baby Shark in Chinese.

Creating our own dragons has caught the imagination of the children. It is said the dragon is a symbol of power, strength and good luck for people in the East Asian Culture.

In the Number Space we have the numbers written in Chinese. Miss P is trying very hard to learn these!

Some children were eager to write 'home', 'me' or 'life' in Chinese characters.

On Thursday, Cris, Baris' mum played a game of 'Simon Says' with us using Chinese words instead of English. We learnt the words for 'Simon says', head, shoulders and knees.

Elsa made a connection to the game by saying her Dad's name is Simon!

Marco said speaking in Chinese is easy for him and that he can help others by being their teacher. This showed active thinking and excellence.

We have had fun this week acknowledging the children with Chinese  heritage at Oaklands School.
