Canterbury Basketball Tournament 2018
9 Year 7/8 Girls represented Oaklands the recent Canterbury Basketball Tournament at Pioneer Stadium.
After automatic qualification in the Zones round, our Year 7/8 Girls Basketball Team represented Oaklands at the Canterbury Basketball Tournament, held at Pioneer Stadium on Tuesday 29 May.
The team consisted of Riley Betman, Charlotte Koers, Hannah Wallace, Ella Wilson, Sadiyah Mann, Caitlyn Stewart, Alexia Mackenzi, Crystal Weng and Solani Fernando. Thanks very much to Katy Wallace who managed the team for the day. Thanks also to our other parent helpers (Paula Wilson and Heather Kane) who provided transport. We really do appreciate your support.
With only 3 of the 9 girls in the team playing regular basketball, playing at the Canterbury Tournament was always going to be a hard ask. While they did not come away with a win, they came very close and performed well above their expectations in all four of their games.
The day was great experience for everyone and all the players enjoyed themselves. Read some of their thoughts on the tournament below.
Riley - The tournament was hard since we had just put a team together. But it went good and we all did our best and worked really well together.
Charlotte - It was an enjoyable tournament. It was interesting to see how the other teams played.
Hannah - It was a really fun day. We all tried our best during the day even though it was a really hard competition.
Sadiyah - This tournament was really challenging because we did not have much time to bond as a team but it was a good experience for me and it has build up our confidence level in Basketball (tournament). I am proud of our team because we tried our best and gave it our best shot even though we ranked last in our pool.
Ella - We had fun at the tournament. It was nice to have some good competition.
