Distance Learning - Hub 1 Week 4

Emma Frampton —

Monday 4th - Friday 8th May

Zoom Whānau Huis

Thank you for your patience this week especially in regards to technology.  Having teachers on site with children has made it challenging when it comes to our Zoom Whānau Huis.  We really appreciate your understanding and continued support.  To help with the challenges, there will be a slight time change to the Zoom Whānau Huis for next week.  The Zoom Whānau Huis will start at 9:20am from Monday 4th May. This allows the teachers who are on site with children time to settle the children into their own class Zoom Whānau Huis before the teachers commence their Zoom Whānau Huis.

Phone Calls

The teachers have really valued the chance to touch base with you this week via the phone calls.  The information and feedback you have provided us helps us to plan the learning programmes for your child, amend anything that you/your child might be finding challenging, put plans in place to support your family and your feedback also assists us in our planning as we prepare for Alert Level 2.

We understand that every family situation is different and is ever changing especially as some adults are working from home or beginning to physically go back into your work premises.  Just a reminder that all the learning we are providing is optional - just do as much as you can with the time that you have available.  We want all the children and families to be happy and healthy - if you need to take a break from the learning for any reason, please feel free to do so.  If your circumstances change and you need more support from us, please feel free to email us at hub1@oaklands.school.nz.

Learning

Here is the link to the distance learning slideshow for your easy reference - the new slides commence from Monday 4th May - Friday 8th May.

This week is Bully Free Week and we have added a slide to the distance learning slideshow that has some good resources to support you with discussions at home around what bullying is and what to do if you are being bullied/see bullying happening.  We have also added a video that is from Hector's World (our cyber safety programme we completed last term).  We thought this would be particularly useful at this time due to us all having a bigger online presence.  On Friday 8th May, wear a pink t-shirt or something pink to show your support for having a Bully Free Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Seesaw

Miss Frampton has added a slide to the distance learning slideshow that has a video tutorial demonstrating how students can use Seesaw independently at home to share their learning and complete activities that teachers may have assigned them.

Our optional challenge for the next couple of weeks is for the children to learn and then record their mihi (self introduction in Te Reo Māori).

You can access the mihi template on the Te Reo Māori slide in the distance learning slideshow.  Children can use written/visual supports to guide them.  This is a starting point and giving it your best effort is all we are looking for!
