Week 4 in Waka Rua
What a week!
Writing
This week for writing, the tamariki have been engaged in a range of workshops to extend different aspects of their writing. This has included working on capital letters, punctuation, Similies and Metaphors and proof reading. We will be continuing this in next weeks writing programme.
Reading
This week in reading , we have been focussing on completing our slideshows of our must do list for each week. Every week the tamariki will complete their handwriting, poetry, big book activities, writing, reread to seesaw and StepsWeb activity and add these to their slideshow.
Over the coming weeks, the students will be coming home with reading books ready for completing our running records. Please encourage your child to reread their story every night. Encouraging them to record themselves on an iPad and watch their video back is a great strategy to make self-corrections in their reading.
Maths
For maths this week, we have been doing some of our regular assessments. The tamariki have done an amazing work. We are so proud of everyone! We have also been loving Matific, multiplication games and place value games during learning stations. You can check out our progress of where we are at in maths, if you check our HERO posts that have been sent this week.
Athletics
On Thursday we participated in the Athletics Funday with the Year 4's. The students participated in sprints, long jump, high jump. discuss, shot put and a relay race. They all did so well! We had so much fun. Thank you to all those who came along to cheer us on!
Multicultural week
During integrated topic this week, we have been busy exploring the different cultures that make up our learning space. The tamariki have been learning how to write some Chinese numbers, learning about India, learning our colours in Samoan, creating an origami bookmark from Cambodia and colouring in flags for our multicultural parade.
C.A.R.E assembly
This week we had a number of students receive their Bronze and Silver C.A.R.E certificates. Ka Pai! Remember to keep an eye out in the weekly newsletters, as this will inform you if your child is receiving a certificate. This will not always be the week before the assembly, it can be the weeks leading up as well. So just keep your eye out on each weeks newsletter, as there are some more to receive their certificates in the coming weeks.
