Pupils help choose new playground

Oaklands School —

Students often love break times and the chance to get push their physical boundaries on play equipment. So it is fitting Oaklands School pupils played a key role in choosing features of our new playground.

The redeveloped school grounds will feature a large, new playground where the middle-school playground currently stands. This new playground will cater for years 1 to 4, once it is installed sometime in Term 4.

The student council, representing their peers, nominated the most important features of playground. These elements were incorporated into the final design. The pupils placed importance on :

  • A spinning carousel
  • Climbing equipment

Redevelopment of buildings is being paid for by the Ministry of Education, but the school - and its Parent Teacher Association (PTA) - have to pay for any other upgrades, including playgrounds and landscaping.

The PTA made a substantial donation to the purchase of the playground, from money raised through sausage sizzles and discos.

The existing senior playground will remain where it is.
