Week 9 in Review

Writing
This week in writing the children answered questions related to them and their experiences at school. They answered questions around what helps them to learn and their feelings around what makes them feel like they belong at Oaklands School.
Reading
‘Because of Winn-Dixie’ has been a great read. The children are continuing to challenge themselves with the Chapter Chat tasks and are looking forward to the end of the book. There have been some really good messages in this text that we will discuss at the end of the book.
In Quick 60, we have been continuing to develop our knowledge around the sounds that letters make. We are currently working on blends where two letters create a sound within a word this week we have looked at Bl, Fl, Ch, Sh next week we are looking at long vowels.
Maths
In 3LB we have finished off our shape unit. We are currently working on developing our strategy knowledge and understanding what strategies work best for the equation presented to us.
We have been looking at place value, rounding to the nearest ten or hundred, adding 10s and using family of facts.
Gymnastics
This week in gymnastics, students have continued to learn different gymnastics movements, such as rolls and tucks. We have started to incorporate balancing into their programme.
Integrated Topic
Our model playgrounds are coming along really well now, with many students are beginning to finish or add some finishing touches. They are really excited to share these with other year groups on the last day of the term!
Te Reo Maori
This week we have continued with our learning about classroom objects. This Friday we had our lesson in the hall with Matua Rihari and learnt how to ask where different objects are.
We are beginning to learn how to say where they are, using the correct sentence structures. We have also continued to improve our pronunciation of the main vowel sounds and the importance of acknowledging the macrons.
Art
We are continuing our arts rotation which the children are thoroughly enjoying.

Shared Breakfast - Thanks so much for all the food provided for Shared Breakfast it really is a highlight for all of the children and a great way to end the Term.
