Rules for different games we play

In the playground we have constructed rules for different games student play. We do review this with the children during read and feed and whanau hui. It would be great to reinforce these at home.  

Touch Rugby Rules

  • Only have to touch with one hand

  • Touch Gently, don’t push.

  • No Tackling.

  • If you get touched roll the ball through your legs straight away and the dummy half will pass it.

  • If you get touched, just accept it.

  • Share the ball.

  • Ref’s decision is final, no arguing.

  • If there is a disagreement use paper/ scissors/ rock to solve it.

  • No kicking of the ball.

  • No passing forward. 


Tag Game Rules

  • Touch Gently, don’t push.

  • Tag on the shoulder.

  • No tag games on the playgrounds.

  • Don’t tag the same person again and again - be fair.

  • Set the boundaries before starting.

  • Decide fairly on a tagger at the start eg bubblegum, black foot or paper/scissors/rock.

  • Don’t quit if you get tagged and give the person a fair chance to get away - 10 seconds.

  • Don’t tease people.


Football Rules

  • Only kick the ball.

  • Goalie can use their hands to handle the ball in the goal area. You can use hands for throw ins as well. Look before you kick.

  • Don’t interrupt others games by kicking their ball away.

  • Don’t push, shove or kick people.

  • Don’t foot trip, ankle tap or slide tackle.

  • Play fairly.

  • Make fair teams.

Making teams: Students pair up with a student of similar ability. Do paper,scissors, rock. Winners of this go into one team; those that lost go into the other. If 2 new players arrive, they do paper, scissors, rock to find team. If one player arrives, they join winning paper, scissors, rock team

  • No touching the ball with your hands, except the goalie.

  • Ref’s decision is final, no arguing.

  • Share the ball around.

  • Assign/ agree on positions at the start of the game.

  • If there is a disagreement use paper/ scissors/ rock to solve it. 


Imagination Game Rules

  • No fighting games.

  • Agree on the rules before starting and be honest in the game.

  • Stay the character you picked at the start.

  • Decide on characters fairly. Use paper/scissors/ rock if you can’t decide.

  • Everyone has a choose at who they want to be. Listen to everyone.

  • Play fairly and gently.

  • If someone gets hurt, stop and check that they are ok.

  • If you don’t like the game, you don’t have to play.


Basketball Rules

  • Don’t throw or kick the ball at people.

  • Look where you are running.

  • No double dribble or travelling.

  • Make even teams.

  • Share the ball around.

  • Ref’s decision is final.

  • If the ball goes out it goes to the other team.

  • Don’t foul people.
