From the Year 7&8s: Garden to Table Buddy Programme

Lynette O'Connor —

Every Friday a third of our Year 7&8 students take part in the Garden to Table Buddy Programme.

After morning tea on Fridays our students take part in 1 of 3 programmes: Te Hapua, Buddy Teaching and Garden to Table. I have been fortunate enough to work with the Garden to Table group this term. We have 6 students that cook with some of the 5 year olds using food from our wonderful gardens and the rest of the students work with the young children on a number of gardening tasks. These tasks include: Planting new vegetables, looking after the garden area and food forest, maintaining garden beds, making new paths and talking to the younger students about how things grow and what they are used for.

"The best part about Garden to table is that we get to cook and it is fun." - Charlotte (Yr7)
