Year 7/8 Hub Update

Lance Muller —

It is hard to believe that there are now only 4 weeks of school left this term. As usual we have been busy!

Buddy Programme - This continues to be a big part of our Friday learning programme. It has been great to see the Seniors cooking  with their Junior Buddies. The last two weeks have seen our Cooks create vegetarian spring rolls with a yummy sweet chilli leek dipping sauce on the side. Needless to say the plates were polished clean and many compliments made to the chefs.

Our involvement with our Junior Buddies has now extended to us helping them with their fitness programme. We will also be assisting with the upcoming Junior Cross Country.  It is always rewarding watching the students interact with their buddies. Some strong relationships are starting to form as both Seniors and Juniors grow in confidence.

Technology - Please be aware that Technology will start up again this week on Tuesday 12 June. Students need to be at school no later than 8:30am to be ready for the bus.

Integrated Learning - We are now taking as we work towards being more sustainable. The classroom is a hive of activity as students work towards creating/ making upcycled plastic items. Photos to  come soon. Click on this link to view the process that the students are following.

Te Hapua -  7/8 SB continue their weekly Friday visits to Te Hapua. Next term will see another whanau room visiting Te Hapua. More information on this to come shortly.

Year 6 Orientation Day and Year 7/8 Open Evening - These two opportunities to promote the fantastic things going on in our hub are scheduled for the 13th and 19th of June respectively. The Year 6 Orientation Day will see the Year 6 hub visiting us to experience a snapshot of a day in the life of a Senior Student.  The open evening on the 19th of June will be an opportunity for prospective (and existing, if they would like ) parents to come and see what happens in the Year 7/8 hub. Both of these events will give many of our students that chance to step up and demonstrate leadership. We are very proud of how quickly our Seniors step up and get involved.

Year 8 Wellington Trip Bake Sale Fundraiser - Thanks to those Year 8 families who contributed baking to this fundraising venture. We raised a total of $620 which will be split amongst all those that contributed baked goods. The next bake sale is scheduled for Thursday 5 July. This will another chance for the Year 8 students to get involved and earn some money off of the cost of  their Wellington trip.
