Other children keep on learning while a child is absent. When a child returns there are learning gaps. The child may feel;
- the teacher did not explain
- other children know more
- not part of teamwork - in class or in the playground
They are always trying to catch up on missed work and activities. Costs to the child may include;
- feelings of social isolation
- loss of learning and social confidence
- reduced self-esteem
