7 Tips for a Smooth Insurance Claim
Need to make an insurance claim but don’t know how? Here are 7 pointers to keep in mind:
1. Alert the insurance company (or your broker) asap to get the claims process started. There may be things you need to do that could affect the outcome of your claim.
2. Document the damage visually – by video or photos – to provide proof of damage.
3. Don’t start making repairs until after a claims adjuster has inspected the damage. But make sure all is safe.
4. Save all receipts (no matter how small) associated with any repairs to give to the insurance company.
5. If you have the original receipts for property that has been damaged or destroyed, provide copies of these. It can help in deciding on a replacement value.
6. Keep aside everything that has been damaged so the loss adjuster can inspect it. And make sure you are there in person for the inspection as you may have vital information they need.
7. If you forgot to include items in your claim, or if further damage is discovered after your claim has been settled, you may still be able to include them and be reimbursed. Ask your insurance company if they will consider this. If you have any queries regarding an insurance claim, get in touch with your broker or contact us.
