What Would Replacing Your House Cost?
It’s not a scenario any of us would wish for.
But what if you lost your entire property in a natural disaster – like a flood, tsunami or earthquake? (None of which are unrealistic in New Zealand!)
Or, your house burned down, taking everything you owned with it? (Not unrealistic either – there are many house fires every year.)
Both these scenarios would require you to rebuild your house from the ground up.
Which you may be surprised to know will likely cost you considerably more than your house is currently worth!
That’s because costs like debris clearing, architect’s drawings and council permits all cost money.
It can be hard to work out what the replacement cost would be but there is now a calculator that makes it very easy and it includes those tricky fees.
The Cordell Sum Sure Home Building Calculator is free for anyone to use.
Pop in your address and other details, and within seconds you’ll see an estimate of the likely cost to rebuild your home and outbuildings should disaster strike.
It doesn’t replace an official valuation, of course (which I recommend), but this calculator is the best we have come across.

Please note that there are a lot of Insurers in the market who insure the sum insured for your house as GST inclusive. The Insurers that we deal with through OFS insure GST exclusive. This can make a big difference to the range of premiums offered, so please ensure this is taken into account.
