Year 12 Food and Nutrition Class Visit the Farmers Market

Cheree Henderson —

Last week, our Year 12 Food and Nutrition class had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Otago Farmers Market, and their experience was even mentioned in the market’s newsletter.

Guided by their teacher, Kate Woodhouse—who previously worked as a chef at the market—students explored the stalls, met local vendors, and learned more about fresh, seasonal produce. They had the chance to speak with John Preedy from Ettrick Gardens, one of the market’s original vendors, and were introduced to the romesco cauliflower, a unique and locally grown vegetable.

The Farmers Market team enjoyed having our students visit and appreciated their interest in learning about where our food comes from. A big thank you to the vendors for sharing their time and knowledge—it was a valuable and engaging experience for our class!
