Camp Caples

Caoimhe Williams, Jasmine Potter, and Lucy Carman —

This year, Caples was one of the year 10 camp options, there were a total of 11 students that attended Caples camp and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. There were many activities and opportunities that we took part in.

On the first day we travelled to Glenorchy with a 2 hour stop in Queenstown for lunch. That night, we tented at the Glenorchy Lodge which had stunning views of the mountains. On Tuesday morning we started our journey up the Caples track, this had amazing views to enjoy, and many river crossings to conquer along the way. After 6 hours of tramping, we made it to the Upper Caples Hut where we enjoyed a lovely long drop and a couple 8-person bunk beds. Unfortunately due to torrential rain and gale-force wind warnings we were unable to continue to the Saddle, so instead we descended back down towards the car park, this was a lot faster and more enjoyable as we were going mostly downhill. Our tramp was hard at some points but it was definitely worth it for the incredible views and the feeling of accomplishment afterwards. Some other highlights were swimming in the freezing cold lake, playing disc golf in the Queenstown gardens and looking around the shops in Queenstown and Arrowtown. On the final night we tented at the Arrowtown campground which had a very exciting playground for us to enjoy, we later had a gourmet meal of burgers and ice cream.

We are very grateful to have had the opportunity to attend this camp and go tramping and strengthen our relationships with each other. The memories made during this camp will last forever. We had an awesome time!
